La pandemia producida por el virus denominado SARS-CoV-2 ha dado como resultado un cambio total en la vida de las personas, no vista desde que, en 1918, otra pandemia, la denominada gripe española, tuvo efectos muy graves en todo el mundo. El virus es un elemento que se encuentra habitualmente en los murciélagos y que, a través de otro animal denominado pangolin, contagió al hombre.
El virus originalmente identificado en la ciudad de Wuhan, China en diciembre del 2019, se diseminó en pocas semanas por todo el planeta. Al 17 de abril del año 2021, 141.004.666 seres humanos han sido contagiados por la enfermedad y 3.017.579 han fallecido.
