Abstract

This article collects the data and studies carried out to genetically characterize the Ecuadorian population. Some genetic markers have been used to determine the origin of the population as well as its ancestry. We are a trihybrid mestizo population whose origin is Amerindian, European and Afro. Each of these ethnic compositions has common genetic footprints. Reference is made to the usefulness of population studies to determine risks of common diseases. Some ethical discussion points are included.
