Abstract

Purpose: A The objective of this work is to describe, through validated questionnaires, the prevalence of fecal incontinence, sexual dysfunction and urinary incontinence in AMR patients and the effect in their quality of life. Methods: A search was carried out of all patients with diagnosis of anorectal malformation aged 18 or older, seen in a urological referral institution between 1990 and 2018. Demographic and clinical data, long-term complications, associated malformations, additional surgical procedures, current renal function and fecal continence were retrieved from the medical records. Results: Comparison of quality of life in general with the reference values of Spanish population show that 60% of our patients were above the reference population in the physical summation, and as much as 80% exceeded the reference population in the mental summation component. Patient 4, who has continuous fecal leakage strikes for her low physical and mental summation. Urinary Incontinence scale ICIQ-SF was answered by five patients; all five had some type of urinary incontinence: urgency incontinence or stress incontinence. Conclusion: in conclusion this study found that the long-term complications of the surgical correction of anorectal malformations significantly affect sexual life of patients. Despite these results, score over 50% were obtained in the scales of quality of life and quality mental health. These contradictory results may means that patients try to cope with complication in order to live more regular lives and therefore do not show dissatisfaction on certain life aspects.
