Abstract

Breastfeeding or the use of human milk (HM) constitutes the normative standard of nutrition for newborns and infants. Academic and professional organizations recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of life, and then, along with the introduction of appropriate foods, it can continue until the age of two or beyond. A similar recommendation, with a high level of evidence, also applies to very low birth weight newborns.
